  • The shocking act of the American pastor and the reaction of the foreign ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran

The Press Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bern, while presenting its greetings, would like to draw your kind attention to the following points:
A-   The shocking act of the American pastor and the reaction of the foreign ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran:
On April 29, a radical American pastor, Terry Jones, who on the anniversary of 9/11 attacks last year burnt copies of Quran the holy book, repeated his heinous act at a Florida church.
In this regard, the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a statement and condemned the burning of the Holy Quran, saying the measure is in line with the failed project of spreading Islamophobia by some western countries. The statement added: undoubtedly these lowly measures will result in religious hatred and in the wrath and resentment of the Muslims all over the world.
The Foreign Ministry further criticized American government for failing to confront those responsible for the recent Quran burnings at the US-run Bagram Airbase, in Afghanistan, saying such silence has made extremists such as Mr. Jones more aggressive in their behavior.
The US government should make an immediate apology to the world of Islam, the statement concluded.
B- Two new anti- Iranian executive orders:
    - US President Mr. Barack Obama issued two anti-Iranian executive orders on April 23 and May 1, 2012 imposing new rounds of extraterritorial and unjust sanctions against Iran and its economic partners.
    - During his less than 4 years tenure, President Obama issued seven executive orders against the Islamic Republic of Iran, while even President George Bush in his 2 terms presidency had not signed any such orders and solely extended the previous ones. Those aggressive, extremist and unfair policies indicate that the present administration is not courageous enough to fulfill its election slogan of a genuine change. The aforementioned hostile acts, certainly would not lead to consensus, cooperation and peaceful settlement of international issues.
-The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that such unilateral bellicose sanctions imposed by the US administration just after the new round of negotiations held in Istanbul on 14 April, 2012 which was unanimously considered as constructive and positive, demonstrated the US government’s confrontational approach towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.
    - On the contrary, Iran strongly believes that the language of pressures and aggression and depriving a nation from its inalienable rights is not and won't be conducive to any positive result.
    - It is crystal clear that in the whole Middle East only the Israeli Regime is in possession of a huge arsenal of 300 to 400 nuclear warheads. So the real disarmament should only deal with this dangerous situation of an atomic regime which has fought with and occupied all its neighbors territories and has not refrained in committing any war crime to achieve its illegitimate objectives.
The press section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran avails itself of this opportunity to renew the assurances of its highest consideration.
